Prayer and Icon Exhibition in Armagh October 1 – 3rd October 2013.

As part of the Year of Faith the “Art and Practice of Daily Prayer” opens at the Synod Hall behind St Patrick’s Cathedral on Tuesday October 1st.  This event is aimed at helping many rediscover how to pray and also how to develop a small sacred space at home so that that families might have a focus around which to gather and pray.  There will be a display of sacred Icons on loan from the Irish Iconography Group and many items of interest connected with prayer and spirituality.  School groups may find a visit very rewarding. It is hoped to have some activities for children and youth to help them in their own faith journey.  Email Fr Declan if you are taking a large group so that we can be prepared to receive you.

Mission Sunday 2013 Pope Francis

World Mission Sunday will be observed this year on October 20.

Pope Francis describes the Year of Faith as having been “an important opportunity to strengthen our friendship with the Lord and our journey as a Church that preaches the Gospel with courage.”  He goes on to say “Everyone should be able to experience the joy of being loved by God, the joy of salvation! It is a gift that one cannot keep to oneself, but it is to be shared. If we want to keep it only to ourselves, we will become isolated, sterile and sick Christians.”

Consecration of Ireland to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Immac Heart of Mary
Consecration of Ireland to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Ireland will be consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The consecration will take place at Knock Shrine, during the annual Novena to Our Lady of Knock.
The Prayer of Consecration will entrust families, homes and the dioceses of Ireland to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary and call on her to watch over the young people of Ireland. As the universal Church is currently celebrating a Year of Faith, it is fitting that the Act of Consecration calls to mind the woman of faith par excellence and asks for her prayers for the people of this country.
You may wish to download this prayer of consecration to use yourself or with your family, parish or school.

Pentecost 2013

Today we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the Apostles as Jesus promised.  Today sees the birth of the Church.  Now filled with the gifts of the Spirit the Disciples preach the Good News without fear in the streets of Jerusalem.

We too have received the Holy Spirit at Baptism and & Confirmation …

The Holy Spirit is God’s gift and guide throughout life.

The Holy Spirit in us brings about wisdom:

a refreshing sense of what really matters in life.

The Holy Spirit in us brings about understanding:

the sensitive insight into what makes people and things tick.

The Holy Spirit in us brings about right judgement:

the discerning skill that guides us towards good choices.

The Holy Spirit in us brings about knowledge:

quickly putting us in touch with what is worth knowing and acting on.

The Holy Spirit in us brings about courage:

drawing us beyond our fears to show love for God and others.

The Holy Spirit in us brings about reverence:

making us careful, respectful and kind.

The Holy Spirit in us sharpens our sense of God’s presence

in the mysteries of life, love, death, and nature.

In these times of heightened awareness and sensitivity,

the Holy Spirit in us gives us pause for wonder and awe.
