Week of Witness for Persecuted Christians 15 – November2026
One in ten Christians, 220 million people, live in countries where they are persecuted for their faith. The charity Aid to the Church in Need, which works to support them, is organising a Week of Witness from November 15-22 to highlight their plight with a special appeal for parishioners to pray for the suffering Church on ‘Red Wednesday’ November 18.

Every year in November, we turn one Wednesday red.
We turn it red to bear witness to the suffering faced by so many Christians around the world. Our brothers and sisters in Christ are denied so much, simply for their faith- access to basic necessities, prospects for their future, their basic human rights.
Across the UK, parishes, schools, individuals and communities are standing together in solidarity. On 18th November churches will light up in red, prayers will be offered for Christians across the world in need, and thanks to you they will have access to emergency aid, food, projects to help support their families and to build them a future.

Defend Freedom of Religion and Belief
Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights guarantees everyone the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. Yet across the world, this fundamental right is under threat.
As #RedWednesday marks its 10th anniversary, this is a critical moment to act. More than 5 billion people live in countries where persecution, oppression, and discrimination restrict religious freedom, including more than 200 million Christians.
